Doing Work: Off With Their Heads!

So the other day I went over to my friend Davids house. I had been talking to him and he told me that he planed on turning his E30 into a race car and turbo charging it. I had hoped to get some pictures of his car, the motor going in and some of the process of his build but instead when I arrived I saw his EJ1 on jack stands.
Turns out he was in the beginning stages of taking his head off. He had been hearing some knocking sounds coming from the engine and he was hoping it wasn't rod knock and maybe just something wrong with the head.
After disconnecting everything the intake manifold was the first thing to come off. Then the valve cover. The bolts connecting the head to the block had to be loosened in a certain order (or so it seemed anyways) and incrementally.

Finally the head was off.
After inspecting the pistons, it turns out rod knock in the 2nd cylinder was the culprit.
I'm not too sure what David plans to do, but knowing him, He's probably gogin to rebuild the whole bottom end... or maybe even the whole motor. That's all for now I'll try to kep you guys updated on everythgin David is up to.

The “EG” Civic

I will always love these, mainly because I had one of these as my first car. To me this is the best civic hatchback. Honda hit a home run with the styling, it’s very smooth and streamline. I love small details, like the flares in the front fenders, and the uniqueness of the rear tail-gate. One of my first impressions of my own EG was of it feeling very solid. These cars are great daily drivers, and also great for performances based tuning, due to a plethora of aftermarket parts and OEM engine swap options.

Rollin Fenders.

So last friday I stopped By Garratts house because I was in the area. We chilled for a little bit, and then this guy Pepe came over and Garratt rolled his fenders.

Garratt's pretty good at that stuff, and Pepe's EM1 is pretty clean.

The “EK” Civic

The successor to the EG Civic this is another home run in they styling department at Honda. While the EG Civic was more subtle and smooth, I believe the EK to more bold and aggressive. This is my 2nd favorite Civic hatchback. Another thing about the EK civic is that it came in a Type-R trim. So if you were in the right region of the work or knew some people who knew some people. You could get a Civic that was ready for the track, but also street legal, from the factory!

So In high school I got my EG civic my junior year. Shortly after, my best friend Sean got an EK civic. We had a lot of good times driving everyone around, going to the mountains and hanging out, and filling up our cars with band equipment and playing shows. As you know I crashed my civic, but my friend Sean still has his. These cars will always remind me of a time when I was young and free.

Ballin On A Budget.

So a few months ago I heard that XXR was releasing some new wheels in pretty good sizing. The word was they wouldn't be available till mid April.  Today I was browsing Zilvia.net to see if anyone had mounted these wheels. I came across this S14 rocking some new 527's:
18x9.75 +20 with a 5mm spacer.
These wheels look great and you cant beat the price. Coming in at a little under $600 for a set of four these wheels are stylish aggressive and affordable. Considering purchasing these for my S14.

Been doin work

Well oilver has been making alot of posts lately but i haven't found time so much. Work and what not has kinda gotten in the way. But i am happy to say that i finally got my garage cleaned out and i am back to doing some long time work on the coupe that i have been putting off. Been working on the engine bay and trunk mainly. tucking wires and cleaning things up. Managed to finally relocate my battery. Here are a couple pics of the trunk

I'll be posting some future updates on my coupe within the next couple weeks

The GC8 Impreza

The GC8 Impreza never came in a STI trim in The United States. Instead we got a 2.5 litter naturally aspirated motor, and a version called the 2.5 RS. If I can remember correctly (I’m not a Subaru guy) the WRX, and STI versions, came with a 2.0 litter turbo, and in Japan the 2.5  N/A was never offered in any GC8 chassis. This car has been a long time favorite of mine. The styling is very aggressive, with the giant fog lights and the functional hood scoop, well, functional in the Japanese versions. This compact all wheel drive coupe is more at home on a gravel course than on the street in my opinion.
I’ve only driven one of these once, It was in high school and an older Japanese guy that I was in a band with had one. He let me drive it around the block once, but i didn’t really get a feel for the car. I wish I could have taken it on a mountain road. The GC8 Impreza is on my list of cars to own. One day, one day.

All Business Life

So me and The Crew rolled  out to the Vallejo meet again this last Wednesday. There wasn't as much as a turnout as last week, I'm guessing because it was so cold. So, next week Wednesday there's a big car show/ drift demo at Infinion raceway in Sonoma. All proceeds will be benefiting relief for those who need it in Japan. Check it out here:

Our very own Stephen and Garratt were approached to be in the show last night. That's always nice.
After the meet we headed to Starbucks to get some coffee, then to 7-eleven to get some doughnuts and then back to Garratts house. We hung out in his garage and talked about the show next week and plans for our cars and stuff like that. Then the guys busted out their bikes and started getting a little crazy. I recorded some of it:

Always good times with those guys. Look out for coverage of the Sonoma drift exhibition next week. It should be pretty exciting.

C.R.E.A.M Meet

So I went out to the cream meet in Vallejo tonight and I must say it was pretty dope. saw a lot of cool cars. Saw a legit JDM right hand drive all original EK3. It was a VTI model, witch is like the economy model. The guy was telling me that on the highway the 4th cylinder turns off so he gets ridiculously good gas mileage. That was pretty cool. There were a large variety of cars. and the parking lot actually got pretty packed. As I was leaving I saw a very familiar car parked next to mine. It was my old Miata, and it looked pretty good. That was kind of triply but it was pretty cool lol. If you're anywhere near Vallejo you should check it out. Hit up TheCreamLife.com For more info

Finally A Welded Diff

So if you've been reading then you know that I tried to get a welded diff but then ended up failing because I got the wrong diff bla bla bla.

So I came down to So-Cal and I knew that I could get it done here. I asked around and actually got sent the direction of a friend of mine. My friend Kristian works at SP Engineering, builds motors, and is all around a very knowledgeable and great guy. He told me that he had a shop with a few friends, and that he actually had an s14 diff that had been welded. Last night I brought my car over to his shop and he, and his friends hooked me up.

That's Kristina in the Snap-on jacket and his buddies working on my car.  So now may car is pretty much ready for motorsport action. I plan on hitting up some autocross in Santa Rosa ans Some drift events pretty soon.

David Is Back!

So my friend David (Martinez) is back from Japan! I'm so glad he actually missed the earthquake by a day! He is so lucky. Anyways, I went to go visit him and to go see how his cars are doing. he told me that he plans on bringing his Ej1 out to Eibach! Hopefully I'll b able to make it to Eibach this years along with most of the crew. He also showed me a lot of parts he ordered for his E30. He ordered a few bracing pieces and a few things to tidy up his car. After recently making some upgrades to my car i asked David to drive my car and give me an impression/ pointers. We took my s14 to a local canyon road and David took it through the paces. I got some good feedback from him and its strange but whenever he drives my cars and takes them to the limit, or close to the limit, I end up driving my car faster. After that we ended up just chillin and going out to eat. Good Times with a good friend.

All Business Life.

So I've been hanging out with the crew and we've all been doing a lot of work on our cars. Stephen Finally figured out why his check engine light was on it was a manifold gasket that needed to be swapped out for the correct one. and I finally put on those inner/outer tie rods on my car and got an alignment.

So I love drifting. Last week when i got paid I decided it was about time to put a welded diff in my car. So i picked up Alan's spare diff for about $40. Me and Garrett took it apart and got it welded witch cost $20 then we put it all back together. Upon jacking up my car and putting it on jack stands we ran into some problems. The Diff I purchased from Alan and got welded was an s13 diff and I obviously drive an s14. there were some minor differences that I could have worked around, but I'd rather run the differential carrier that is specific to my car. *sigh* Soon though! My dif will be welded and I will start hitting up some drift events. and you will hear about it first.

On a side note we made some rad new stickers:

Yeah pretty rad stuff!
